Gord & Jan

John 10:9 “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.”

Gord and Jan were high school sweethearts who were married in 1969. They moved from West Vancouver to Kelowna, B.C. in 1974 where they purchased both their first home and an interior design business.

Two beautiful daughters, Katherine and later Patricia, were born in the spring of 1975 and 1976 - life changing events that set them on a spiritual quest resulting in giving their lives to Jesus in 1977.

Their family life was full and happy until October, 1979, when Gord very suddenly became critically ill. He was subsequently diagnosed with acute capillary extra follicular glomerular nephritis, a condition that had recently taken his brother’s life - frightening news for these young new believers.

It was in this season of desperate prayer and total surrender that the Healing Gate was actually birthed. To their absolute amazement, the Lord suddenly and miraculously healed Gord’s body and within 24 hours he was off dialysis and various other attachments and on his way home.

Over the next months and years, Gord grew increasingly fascinated with the works of Jesus he read about in the gospels. In 1985 Gord and Jan met with two young men who were equally impassioned to learn more about the Kingdom of God and together with David Ruis, Wesley Campbell and a team of Elders, New Life Church was established in Kelowna. By 1988, Gord was invited to join the staff in an administrative capacity.

However, Gord could not let go of his passion to ‘do the stuff’ and he and Jan began to dream about a Healing ministry that would provide a safe environment for healing the whole man or woman; body, soul and spirit. As they studied the word, they began to understand that healing the sick, delivering the demonized, healing the inner man and even raising the dead, were and are demonstrations of the works of Jesus for today.

In 1989 Gord received his credentials in Christian Counselling from Burnaby Counselling Centre, a satellite of Regent College and received his ordination in 1990. For the next 10 years, Gord entered into a Holy Spirit apprenticeship, learning, developing and practicing the gifts of the Holy Spirit though counselling and prayer ministry.

In 1995, the Lord gave the name “The Healing Gate” through a word of knowledge and the name became a covering for what would be known as the healing arm of New Life Church Kelowna.

Invitations began to come from other churches, both nationally and internationally to have Gord come to come to teach and preach and Healing Gate Ministries International was established to accommodate those requests. In 2007 Gord took on the new role of Team Leader over International Ministries at New Life.

Gord and Jan have travelled to several cities in the U.S.A. and across Canada as well as to the Philippines, China, Denmark, Holland, Indonesia, Great Britain, Japan, South Korea, Samoa, Hawaii, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore where they share their testimony, teaching, preaching and demonstrating the Kingdom of God.

They make their home in beautiful East Kelowna, British Columbia which they share with with their mom Shirley, daughter Katherine and grandchildren Emily (11), Alex (9) and Olivia (7). Their youngest daughter, Patricia, husband Oriole and granddaughters Camille (5) and Charlotte (3) and baby Myah also live nearby in Kelowna. Favourite at home past time? The grandchildren of course!
